"Ocean's Deadliest" does not refer to Irwin's death until its closing shot: a still photo of Irwin, smiling broadly, and the words "In Memory of Steve Irwin."

"Doing the last few minutes of narration was pretty tough," said Cousteau, who serves as the on-camera guide and voice of the project. "It got a little emotional at the end. I kept thinking of all the things Steve and I talked about -- how humankind is the deadliest predator in the ocean. The strong conservation message comes through, and that's a great tribute to him."

Born: Feb. 22, 1962, in Essendon, Victoria, Australia.

Family: Married to Terri (pictured with Steve at left) since 1992. Daughter Bindi Sue, 8; son Bob, 3.

TV: Hosted Animal Planet's "The Crocodile Hunter" from October 1996. Spinoff series included "Croc Files," "The Crocodile Hunter Diaries" and "New Breed Vets," as well as specials for Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Travel Channel. Rebroadcasts are scheduled to continue.

Movies: In 2006's animated "Happy Feet," Irwin is the voice of Trev, a penguin. The film is dedicated to him.

Philanthropy: In 2002, Irwin established Wildlife Warriors Worldwide to work with conservation, wildlife rescue and research.
